REFLECT: Diving

I shot this photo of Miles as he was walking into a nearly 700 foot hole in the Bahamian Oceans. Sounds wild right! It was. Deans Blue Hole, in Long Island Bahamas is truly a phenomenal sight that the earth has put in front of us. I say it was placed here merely to be observed, but others, like Miles and his buddy William think a bit differently. Here is a photo of Miles all geared up to free dive ( a form of underwater diving that does not involve the use of scuba gear or other external breathing devices, but rather relies on a diver’s ability to hold his or her breath.)  William competes in world title events for this, and is actually at the top of the ranks. He is the worlds best free diver. Quite a unique and tremendous title. Miles was lucky enough to get to assist Will on a few of his dives.. which to someone like me who finds the hole a bit eery sounds like tourture!.. but to Miles aka Mr. Waterman himself, he was the happiest little helper you ever did see!

I love this photo of him, I love how even though you may not know exactly what is happening, where he is going or even who it is.. you know the intensity that is about to take place. I personally know the love Miles has for adventure, exploration and all things water. He once told me he felt as if he was entering a magical world whenever he dove. He has such a beautiful way of looking at things, a way in which we all have the ability to do, but we choose not to.. or we grow out of it. Miles will never grow out of it. It’s who he is and it’s one of the things I can honestly say I love the most about him.

Flying home from this trip Miles sat next to the window and watched as we flew over each and every island. He was like a little boy, I know he was excited to move onto our next location, but I also know that he could have stayed, explored, and played with his bahamian buddies forever.

While watching him I wrote:

through them you see the world with hints of wonder & tints of grace.

those few lines right there tell you a lot about Miles.

Couldn’t you just fall in love.. and I haven’t even mentioned how HOT he is.

This photo shows the positioning of Deans Blue Hole (it’s incased in a Bay right off the Ocean ) The white platform in the middle is Williams dive platform that he uses to train, & you can see Miles and Will getting ready for a dive!
